At Transformers & Rectifiers Ltd., we are proud to support the transition to cleaner maritime operations with the successful completion of a 2.5 MVA Shore to Ship Power Supply, fully designed, manufactured, and tested at our UK facility.
As global ports work toward reducing their environmental impact, shore-to-ship (STS) power systems have become a key part of sustainable port infrastructure. These systems allow docked vessels to switch off their onboard diesel generators and connect directly to the onshore power grid, significantly reducing fuel use, carbon emissions, noise pollution, and maintenance requirements. STS systems are not only environmentally beneficial, but they also contribute to improved air quality and working conditions for those operating in and around ports.
The 2.5 MVA unit supplied by T&R was developed to meet the unique electrical and mechanical demands of marine shore connection. Designed to operate in coastal environments with high reliability, the transformer is engineered to deliver consistent performance under fluctuating loads, while meeting strict regulatory and safety standards. The unit features rugged construction, enhanced insulation systems, and corrosion-resistant materials to ensure long-term durability in salt-laden atmospheres.
This project reflects a wider industry trend toward electrification and decarbonisation of port operations, as governments and port authorities align with global emissions reduction goals. With increased pressure to reduce the carbon footprint of shipping and logistics, shore power systems are quickly becoming an operational necessity in modern port infrastructure.
We extend our sincere thanks to the customer for their trust in our engineering expertise, and to our in-house team for their dedication and attention to detail throughout the build. At Transformers & Rectifiers Ltd., we remain committed to developing solutions that meet both today’s operational challenges and tomorrow’s environmental standards.
