SIGNALLING TRANSFORMERS & VOLTAGE STABILISERS
For years, the ‘Voltage Stabilising Transformer Unit’ has been supplying the traction industry with a constant voltage signalling supply. The equipment was introduced to ‘British Rail’ as a solution to an engineering issue.
At that time, Brentford Electric was asked to provide a voltage stabiliser to compensate for a mains variation of 28,750V to 11,250V due to the power drawn by the trains as they passed by the signalling boxes. The equipment provided, offered the client a stable supply for a much varied source.
The composite equipment includes a step down transformer which transforms the varying 25kV to a much lower voltage potential. The transformer then feeds the voltage stabiliser which transformers the varied supply into a constant supply.
